The Charles Heidsieck Champagne Regatta will be hosted by Helsingfors Segelsällskap (HSS) on the island of Liuskasaari (Skifferholm in Swedish). The regatta takes place from Friday, August 5th to Sunday, August 7th. The Champagne Regatta is one of the major classic boat events in Finland, and it has been organized since 2010.
The regatta is open to classic boats in handicap and one-design classes. For the Dragons, sharks, 6 metre and 8 metre classes the Champagne Regatta is part of their ranking series. For the Int 5m the Champagne regatta is open class championship.
The Regatta will host the Open Finnish Nationals for the Nordic Folkboat class. The Folkboat Nationals will start on Friday, August 5th. Other classes start their races on Saturday, August 6th. There will be two races per day. The first race will start at 11.00 every day. Participating boats will berth at the HSS.
The race course is right in front of the HSS clubhouse, between the HSS (Skifferholmen) and Pihlajasaari. The HSS Boathouse Restaurant terrace and the rocks nearby offer a perfect place from which to watch the races. The HSS Boathouse restaurant is also worth looking at from inside. It was designed by architect Runar Finnilä and the art works inside the restaurant are from the HSS members Björn Landström and Michael Schilkin.
A ferry shuttle runs to the HSS from the mainland (see map). The HSS welcomes everyone to come to the island to follow the racing, watch beautiful classic boats and to enjoy Skifferholmen. There is a bathing beach on the adjacent (connected) island.
