The Charles Heidsieck Champagne Regatta will be hosted by Helsingfors Segelsällskap (HSS) on the island of Liuskasaari (Skifferholm in Swedish). The regatta takes place from Friday, August 4th to Sunday, August 6th. The Champagne Regatta is one of the major classic boat events in Finland, and it has been organized since 2010.
The Champagne regatta is part of International Baltic Classic Circuit 2017. The Baltic Classic circuit 2017 will have four international regattas in Sweden and Finland, two in each country. The clubs are the Royal Swedish Yacht Club, KSSS, Airisto Yacht Club, ASS, and Helsinki Yacht Club, HSS.
The Baltic Classic Masters will start on Friday, august 4th and continue on saturday, august 5th and will have traditional archipelago race course.
The regatta is open to classic boats in handicap and one-design classes. For the Nordic Folkboat, Dragons, sharks and int5m classes the Champagne Regatta is part of their ranking series. These classes will have their races on Saturday, August 5th and Sunday, august 5th.
The Regatta will host the Open Finnish Nationals for the 6mR class. The 6mR Nationals will start on Friday, August 4th. There will be two races per day. The first race will start at 11.00 every day. Participating boats will berth at the HSS.
The race course C is right in front of the HSS clubhouse, between the HSS (Skifferholmen) and Pihlajasaari. Race course D is close to island Melkki. The Baltic Classic Masters will have traditional archipelago race course.
The HSS Paviljong Restaurant terrace and the rocks nearby offer a perfect place from which to watch the races. The HSS Paviljong restaurant is also worth looking at from inside. It was designed by architect Runar Finnilä and the art works inside the restaurant are from the HSS members Björn Landström and Michael Schilkin.
A ferry shuttle runs to the HSS from the mainland (see map). The HSS welcomes everyone to come to the island to follow the racing, watch beautiful classic boats and to enjoy Skifferholmen. There is a bathing beach on the adjacent (connected) island.
